Thursday 14th May 2015
Breakfast at 8:30am.
Weather in Singapore is hot, about 30° and very humid.
We then (all 4 of us) headed to the Singapore Flyer (very large Ferris wheel). Heather Lynne & I had a 30-minute ride; views are amazing so we took some fantastic photos.
Lynne & Heather then went to the Fish spa for a 30-minute session with feet in a pool of water full of doctor fish nibbling their feet.
More walking and we went to Marina Bay Sands and then to the Gardens by the Bay which features beautiful gardens and 2 huge air-conditioned conservatories featuring plant life from around the world, (cloud & flower domes). All flowered out now. There are also Supertrees – very tall tree like tower structures that are vertical gardens, lit up at night. There is also a tree walk, about 22 meters above the ground which was fantastic.

Finished in the gardens at about 7:00pm so went looking for dinner, eventually had a quick meal in the food court in Marina Bay Mall and then walked back to our hotel about 9:00pm for a cuppa and cake.

Our flight from Munich touched down at 7:00am, cleared customs, collected our luggage and got in a taxi about 7:45am for the trip to the Pan Pacific Hotel where we will be spending the next 4 nights.
Checked into the hotel at 8:00am. As our room was not going to be ready until about 10:30 am we caught up with Heather & Mick for a cuppa while we waited.
Hotel reception called at 10:30 am to say our room was ready and they had delivered the luggage to our room already. Collected the room keys and headed up to our room on the 28th floor. Excellent view over Singapore harbour.
We felt recharged after a shower and change of clothes so went for a walk to the Merlion and had lunch & drink at a bar looking over Marina Bay. More walking saw us at Suntec City where we had dinner and saw the Fountain of Wealth.
Made the short walk back to hotel for an early night and some much needed sleep.

Our last morning in Munich.
Weather has been awesome with today no different. Maximum temperature is expected to be 30°.
Breakfast at 7:00 then back to our room to complete the last minute packing then checked out of the hotel and got in a taxi at 9:00am for the 45 minute trip to the airport.
Arrived at the airport at 9:45am and as our flight was not due to depart until 1:25pm we checked our luggage and got our seat allocations. As the plane, a Boeing 777, was not full we were able to get a 3-seat row at the rear of the plane with an empty seat between us, which gave us a bit more room and was more comfortable for the 11½-hour flight o Singapore. We then found the place to get the GST refunds processed on the items we bought in Munich, about $80, so worth spending the time in the line to get it done. Lynne also bought some more souvenirs.
The flight left right on time.

Monday 11th May 2015
Another early start as we had to have breakfast and be at Grayline Coaches meeting point outside the Hauptbahnhof at 8:30am for our trip to the Eagles Nest.
Weather is excellent again today, clear blue sky, no wind and expected maximum of 24°.
The bus trip to The Eagles Nest is about 3 hours and we had to take a detour to drop another tour group off at a Castle on the way.
Arrived at the car & bus stop about 11:30am where we had to change to a special bus to drive the 6km long road designed specially for the Eagles Nest.
We then had to walk through a 124m long tunnel, which led to a vertical lift shaft for the last 124m to the top. The lift carriage is original and was built for Adolf Hitler. It is panelled in brass.
Built on top of Kehlstein Mountain, Eagles Nest is 1,834m above sea level and was completed in 1938. It was presented to Adolf Hitler by the National Socialist Party (NS) as a 50th birthday present. Several thousand workers were involved and construction took place under extreme conditions at a cost of 30 million Reichmarks.
Had lunch at the restaurant at the car/bus park and then visited the bunker, which is just below the Eagles Nest near the car park, before boarding the bus for the return trip. We arrived back in Munich just after 7:00pm.

As it is our last night in Munich, we had dinner in our favorite pub Paulaner Im Tal. Schnitzel & salad then apple strudel with custard.

Sunday 10th My 2015
Nothing planned for today so we were able to have a sleep in.
Weather continues to be excellent. Blue sky a little high cloud and a light breeze, temperature expected to be19°.
After breakfast we grabbed our cameras and walked to the Englischer Garten (English Garden). Stopped to look at the Isartor Gate, one of the city gates, near our hotel.

Arrived at the English Garden and watched some locals surfing in the fast flowing stream.

Continued walking through the gardens, which are lovely, and had an early lunch at the Biergarten (beer garden) in the park, bratwurst, fried potatoes washed down with a pint of beer. Lynne had a cup of tea, and we saw a traditional Bavarian band playing.

Suitably fortified we continued our walking tour along Odeonsplatz and back to Marienplatz. Time for another break so we had tea, coffee & cake before going to see St Peters church. It is the oldest parish church in Munich. Called Alter Peter (old Peter) it is believed to occupy the site settled by monks who gave the Bavarian capital its name. The church, which is beautiful inside, was severely damaged in bombing raids in December 1943 and reconstruction to bring it back to is former glory was completed during the mid 50’s.

Continued walking back towards our hotel and went into the Spielzeugmuseum (toy museum) in the Old Town Hall tower. There are 4 floors of amazing old toys including steif bears, clockwork train sets, original tin robots, tin solders etc. A narrow spiral staircase separates each floor.

A most enjoyable day of sightseeing that saw us walk about 5klms all up. Now time to rest the feet before going out for dinner.
