Tuesday 6th
May 2014
Weather today was sunny with some light cloud.
Temperature was a warm 20°. Fortunately, the predicted rain showers did not
eventuate.
After breakfast we set out on the tube to North
Greenwich where we saw the 02 Centre
(formerly the Millennium Dome) then walked to the Emirates Cable car and did a
return trip across the Thames. The cable car is 296ft above the river at its
highest point. The views of the city and surrounds were great.

We then hopped onto a bus for the short trip to
Greenwich, where we walked around to the dry dock that houses the “Cutty Sark”
for a tour of the ship.
She is a very famous and fast clipper ship, which
carried tea and other cargo around the world, including wool from Australia to
the UK. A full restoration of the ship started in 2006 and, after being damaged
by fire in 2007, she is now open to the public once again.

After a light lunch we set off on foot for the
short walk to the National Maritime Museum. The museum has some excellent
exhibits including the Uniform coat Vice Admiral Lord Nelson was wearing when
he was shot and killed on board the “Victory”. The coat still has the bullet
hole in the left shoulder.

As we were feeling a bit weary by now we caught
the Docklands Light Rail and then the tube back to our hotel before making a trip
to the laundrette to do some washing.
Final stop for the day was the nearby Corus
Hotel for a great dinner - lamb cutlets for both of us followed by panacotta for
Lynne and Sago pudding for me.
Sounds like a great day. So much to see in London!
