Sunday
10th My 2015
Nothing planned for today so we were able
to have a sleep in.
Weather continues to be excellent. Blue sky
a little high cloud and a light breeze, temperature expected to be19°.
After breakfast we grabbed our cameras and
walked to the Englischer Garten (English Garden). Stopped to look at the
Isartor Gate, one of the city gates, near our hotel.

Continued walking through the gardens,
which are lovely, and had an early lunch at the Biergarten (beer garden) in the
park, bratwurst, fried potatoes washed down with a pint of beer. Lynne had a
cup of tea, and we saw a traditional Bavarian band playing.

Suitably fortified we continued our walking
tour along Odeonsplatz and back to Marienplatz. Time for another break so we had
tea, coffee & cake before going to see St Peters church. It is the oldest
parish church in Munich. Called Alter Peter (old Peter) it is believed to
occupy the site settled by monks who gave the Bavarian capital its name. The
church, which is beautiful inside, was severely damaged in bombing raids in
December 1943 and reconstruction to bring it back to is former glory was
completed during the mid 50’s.

Continued walking back towards our hotel
and went into the Spielzeugmuseum (toy museum) in the Old Town Hall tower.
There are 4 floors of amazing old toys including steif bears, clockwork train
sets, original tin robots, tin solders etc. A narrow spiral staircase separates
each floor.

A most enjoyable day of sightseeing that
saw us walk about 5klms all up. Now time to rest the feet before going out for
dinner.
