An early start again today.
The weather has been great again today,
blue sky with a little high cloud and expected maximum of 21°.
After a healthy breakfast of fruit &
toast we walked up past the Marienplatz and saw the Church of Our Lady, which
is the best known symbol of the City of Munich, and one of the finest gothic constructions
in Germany, with famous green domes.
Domes on Church of Our Lady |
The church was built between 1468 &
1494. The towers on the church were originally roofless, but were covered in
1525 by unusual domes inspired by Italian Renaissance art. The inside of the
church is magnificient with extremely high vaulted ceilings and many stained
glass windows.

We continued walking to the Karlsplatz,
doing shopping along the way, and eventually found the Hauptbahnhof (main
railway station) where we checked in with the tour company for tomorrows trip
to Neuschwanstein Castle.
We then boarded the hop on hop off bus to Königsplatz
(known as the “Athens of the Isar”) being one of the most beautiful town
planning features of King Louis I. Three buildings: -Propylaea, which
reproduces Doric style of classical Greece, Sculpture Gallery, built in the
Ionic style, and the State Collection of Antiquities in the Corinthian style.
Konigsplatz |
We also saw two building constructed in 1937 by Hitler and used by
the Nazi party until the end of WWII.
More walking and we passed the Lenbachhaus, a Tuscan style villa which is now an art gallery.

Back on the bus, we went to Max-Joseph-Platz, which houses the National Theatre. Continued walking and eventually ended up back in Marienplatz. Time for a rest and a drink in one of the local pubs, then more shopping before dinner at our favourite pub: Roast Munich pork with potato dumplings and cabbage salad- delicious!!!.
