The Ship arrived in Bamberg at 6:00am
The weather remains hot. Predicted to be 24° but it actually reached 29°.
Breakfast at 7:30am then prepared for our walking tour of the City,
which was founded in 1007AD.
The Old City Wall is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bamberg is not surprisingly another Town, which is famous for its beers
& ales. The most famous being the inky-black Rauchbier (smoke beer) which
we tasted. Not really to my liking, tasted very much like a fireplace and had a
strong bacony aftertaste.
The city is full of small narrow cobble stone streets which pedestrians
share with cars.
After a walking past a number of old pubs and breweries we continued up
the hill to view The Imperial Cathedral. Inside is very plain with no paintings
or adornments on the walls. Pope Clement II who died in 1047AD in buried in the
east part of the Cathedral- the only papal tomb north of the Alps.
Back down the hill and along the River to see the Old City Hall that is
constructed on a bridge. The half-timbered part dated back to about 1440.
We continued our walk back along the river to the bus, which took us
back to the Ship at 12:30pm.
The ship sailed at 12:30pm heading for Würzburg.
Heather & Michael celebrated their 38th Wedding Anniversary
today. So to mark the occasion we arranged a cake with the Cruise Director
which was presented to the at dinner.
