2016
Not such an early start this morning.
Weather is staying fine but temperature increasing with expected top of
26°.
At 10:30am Lynne & Heather & Eileen set of for Bagnoles de
L’orne a delightful village where in days gone by people went to “take the
waters”. It is lovely with a large lake, shops casino & many eating places.
It also has a morning market.
They then continued onto Domfront, a medieval village with a ruined
castle, beautiful church which looks byzantine and lovely old shops situated on
a hill.
Michael, Jim & I set of for Le Mans the mecca of sports car racing
and the home of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. First was the museum which houses a
wonderful collection of Le Mans winning cars including Porsche 917 LH, Ford GT
40, Jaguars, Aston Martins and many more.
There was a club race meeting on so were able to go into the grandstand
for a view of the start/ finish straight and also watched some GP3 cars out on
the track.
Back home and it was time for a few drinks before dinner.
Dinner was in a 300-year-old barn, which had a bread oven that is still
in working order. We cooked pizza in the oven, which was fueled by timber from
the old barn roof. The timber was oak and whilst 300 tears old it made an
excellent fire with temperatures in the bread oven reaching in excess of 500°c.
The pizzas cooked in about 3 minutes. Eileen had also cooked a white
chocolate cheese cake for desert
It was a wonderful experience and a fantastic way to celebrate the eve
of our 40th wedding anniversary.
