Up at 7:00am for breakfast and get ready to set off at 9:45am for
another wonderful day of exploring the French countryside.
Weather is being kind with an expected top of 22° but a little overcast.
First up was a short walk down the road from Jim & Eileen’s to
Chateau de Bourgon, a lovely old castle with some parts dating back to 1418 and
is in very original condition. Jim arranged with the owner, Alain who had lived
there for the last 12 years to give us a guided tour. He is only the 3rd
owner of the castle in all that time.
Alain offered up tea & coffee while he explained the history of the
Chateau before guiding us through the building.
He showed us the records room which as documents dating back to the 1200’s
and are all-original. The Germans occupied the Chateau for a brief time during
1942-1943, but fortunately they did not damage it.
Back to Le Tuileries for lunch after which we set off again with Jim
driving to the beautiful village of Saint Ceneri le Gerai. Walked round the
village and then drove onto Saint Leonard des Bois another quaint little
village where we had a drink before returning to our cottage for drinks and
dinner. Jim cooked coq au vin (chicken in wine) to celebrate Eileen’s birthday.
