Sunday 11th September
2016
Weather continues to h=be hot and sunny. And we had 32° today.
After sailing overnight we docked briefly at Wertheim where we
disembarked and boarded a bus for our tour of Miltenberg. The ship then sailed
to Miltenberg to pick us up.
Miltenberg is lovely well preserved medieval city on the Main River and
has an excellent array of half-timbered houses. The city also has a large
Marktplatz (Market Place) and a stone bridge. The original was built to fit in
with the medieval and was completed in 1900; however, it was blown up in the
last months of WWI and was rebuilt in 1950. The town also had a number of
Christmas decoration shops so more decorations were purchased.
We re-embarked at 1:30pm in Miltenberg and continued sailing down the
Main River heading for Rüdesheim, which e expect to reach 7:00am tomorrow.
In the afternoon we watched a glass blowing demonstration before dinner.
After dinner we were entertained by Tomy Temerson who is one of only 5
Zither players in the world. A Zither is a strange looking stringed instrument
which has a guitar type register plus an additional 38 strings similar to a
small harp. It was very interesting.
