Thursday 8th September 2016
The ship sailed overnight to Nuremberg and docked at 11:30am.
As our tour did not start until 1:30pm we had a bit of a sleep-in and a late breakfast.
Weather again today was very a very hot 32°. with no cloud.
After lunch we boarded busses to our tours, Lynne & Heather did the city tour with free time for shopping while Michael & I did the City tour including the Document Centre. Nuremberg is the 3 largest city in Germany and was chosen by “Hitler” for his rallies as is was considered to be the most Germanic City at the time and was also relatively easy to get to. First stop was Zeppelin Feld. The mooring point for the Zeppelin. It was letter developed into a massive meeting square where “Hitler” held Nazi rallies.  The field could accommodate 500,000 people and behind the dais was a 50meter high swastika, which was blown up by the US occupying forces at the end of WWII.

After a short drive round the city passing landmarks such as the massive SS barracks, Palace of Justice where in courtroom 600 the War Trials were held and is still in use today including the attached prison), The 4 medieval City Gates which mark the old City we arrived at the documentation centre. The centre is housed in a massive brick building (similar to the Coliseum in Rome. The building was to be used by “Hitler” for Nazi parts rallies but was never finished. It has been left standing to remind the population to learn from history so the events of WWII will never happen again. The documentation centre is audiovisual museum depicting political scene prior to WWII, as well as during and after the war including the Nuremburg War Crimes Trials.
